Congressman Wally Herger Honored with “Biomass Advocate Outstanding Achievement” Award

The California Biomass Energy Alliance (CBEA) has chosen Northern California Congressman Wally Herger to receive its prestigious “Biomass Advocate Outstanding Achievement” award for his unwavering support for the biomass power industry.

“Most people think only of wind and solar when they think of renewable energy, but not Congressman Wally Herger – he understands the many unique advantages offered by biomass power, and has worked tirelessly to help expand and grow this industry to the benefit of all Californians.”

California’s biomass energy industry reduces greenhouse gas emissions by more than 6.75 million tons every year, diverts clean wood waste away from our landfills, directly employs 750 Californians and indirectly creates another 1,200 – 1,500 dedicated jobs through suppliers.

“Congressman Herger’s ongoing efforts to extend the federal renewable energy production tax credits to all open loop biomass plants are helping our companies create green jobs and expand generation, which will ultimately help California meet its renewable energy mandates.”

“It’s an honor to receive this award from the CBEA, and it has been a pleasure working with them to help grow California’s economy, produce much-needed energy and address the unnatural fuels accumulation in our forests,” said Congressman Herger. “We’re making tremendous progress, but there’s still work to be done to ensure biomass power is being utilized to its fullest potential.”

CBEA represents the state’s 33 biomass-powered electricity generating facilities, which provide renewable power to nearly 600,000 California homes and businesses. Biomass power represents approximately 17 1/2 percent of all renewable energy in the state.
