“I am honored to be given the opportunity to serve as a member of the Food Safety, Science and Technology Committee, whose focus and mission is both timely and critical to the produce and broader food industry,” said Mr. Cope. “I am pleased that both Purfresh’s and my technical and food industry experiences can work in cooperation with the PMA and such a power group of industry leaders to tackle a problem as important as the safety of fresh food. I look forward to leveraging this collective expertise to ensure food safety practices and technologies are approachable, effective and minimize friction in the industry by working closely with existing processes.”
The Committee reports directly to the PMA board of directors and collaborates with the Government Affairs Committee as needed. Primary roles and responsibilities include monitoring and discussing emerging food science, safety and technology solutions; providing strategic direction in helping staff evaluate key food safety and technology regulatory or legislative requests for industry input; and translating complex technical issues into viable, business applications and solutions for the produce industry.
Mr. Cope joined Purfresh in April 2004, and during his tenure the company has strengthened its leadership position and focus on coupling proven science with advanced technology to deliver innovative and differentiated agriculture solutions that drive value throughout the food supply chain.
