Statement by Deepwater Wind on Google”s Atlantic Wind Connection Project

Deepwater Wind CEO William M. Moore today made the following statement: “We welcome Google and its partners to the effort to establish the United States as a leader in the global offshore wind industry. Harvesting the clean and abundant wind resources off of America’s coasts is critical to our country’s economic and national security, and transmission of that clean power is a critical component to building this industry.

“At Deepwater Wind, we’ve been working for several years on our own cost-effective submarine transmission solutions to help us realize our vision of building larger wind farms, beyond the horizon, to power the Eastern Seaboard. Our transmission solutions would serve the New York-New Jersey market as well as Southern New England and include new regional links between neighboring grids, offering energy and reliability benefits as well as facilitating the construction of wind farms far offshore.

“Deepwater Wind expects to construct several of the nation’s first offshore wind farms, and we welcome today’s announcement as it confirms the importance of developing the transmission infrastructure necessary to support this growing industry.”
