PETERBOROUGH, ONTARIO — (Marketwired) — 07/02/14 — Ontario Family Fishing Week gets underway this weekend, and clubs and service organizations across the province are getting ready to host family-friendly events. During the week of July 5 to 13, fishing derbies and festivals will be running in more than 50 communities, including several in the Toronto area. The popular initiative is designed to bring families together in the outdoors to enjoy fishing on one of Ontario’s more than 250,000 lakes and countless rivers and streams.
The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters (OFAH) delivers Ontario Family Fishing Week as part of Ontario Family Fishing Events (OFFE), which is an Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) initiative. The OFAH and its partners are working hard to introduce more people to fishing.
“Fishing gives families the chance to reconnect without the distractions of everyday life getting in the way,” OFAH Executive Director Angelo Lombardo said. “We want to encourage everyone to go fishing during Ontario Family Fishing Week to experience a healthy outdoor activity that will provide them with a lifetime of memories.”
