The United States Department of Agriculture has launched its new “Smart Snacks In School” competitive food rules, and HUMAN Healthy Vending is supporting this program by offering schools healthy vending machines with a wide variety of healthy snacks and beverages that comply with the standards.

The USDA’s “Smart Snacks In School” rules came into effect as a result of the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 and affect any school that participates in the National School Lunch Program. The Interim Final Rule, which went into effect on July 1st, 2014, require that snacks include more whole grains, low-fat dairy, protein, fruits and vegetables, and that limits are set on calories, fats, sugar and sodium.

In addition to providing compliant snacks and beverages to schools via healthy vending machines, HUMAN also works with each school location to ensure its other competitive food options meet the Smart Snacks In School rules.
