Houston Filmmaker/Actor has Three Films Screening at Comicpalooza in June

Houston, TX – June 7, 2016 – Houston filmmaker and actor Joe Grisaffi has three feature films screening at Comicpalooza, Houston’s largest pop culture convention, June 17-19.

Lars the Emo Kid, directed by Joe Grisaffi, screens 11am Sunday, June 17. Lars the Emo Kid is a touching teen comedy about a boy who is dealing with the loss of his best friend, his parents divorcing and being the target of the school bully. The B-Movie Avenger says this about Lars: “Lars The Emo Kid is a wonderfully crafted genre defying exhibition of youth in peril as well as being a bold and ballsy coming of age story.” Lars the Emo Kid was filmed in and around Houston. Lars the Emo Kid is written by and stars Paxton Gilmore, who wrote the screenplay when he was 19, based on characters he created at 16 years old.

Grisaffi also has a role in T.E. Sanders’ Fun With Hackley, Axe Murderer, a comedy spoofing cinema’s most famous horror villains. Hackley screenings at 1pm Sunday, June 19 at Comicpalooza.

Grisaffi also makes a cameo in the Houston-made feature film KILD-TV, directed by William Collins. More importantly, Grisaffi’s film “Conjoined” is the movie being broadcast during the events of KILD-TV. KILD-TV is the story of a late night TV horror show host and crew (think Elvira hosting a horror movie show) trapped in a television station with a murderer among them.

Joe Grisaffi will also be a panelist for the Houston Director Q&A hosted by MicroSearch. Grisaffi will discuss what it takes to make a micro-budget film in Houston, using his films Lars the Emo Kid, Conjoined and Dead of Knight as examples. Grisaffi’s panel takes place Saturday mooring at 10am, June 18 in room 372D.

All film screenings take place in the Theater Room, 361A.

Comicpalooza takes place at the George R. Brown Convention Center June 17-19. For more information on Comicpalooza, visit comicpalooza.com.
